Due to the complexity of last year's christmas card (featuring a monster formed out of a massive toy pile [link] ) I couldn't really get too detailed, so this year I really wanted to just pick a few characters to feature and really amp up the finishing...
And I'm running out of visual takes on Santa Clause.
So I decided this year the theme would be 'Animals'.
I knew right off the bat that I wanted to do a Grizzly Bear as Santa... After that I went through tons of animals till I ended up with a monkey, rhino, owl, mouse, snake, and octopus as elves.
I'm happy with the results...
If you're interested, I've posted a 'Making Of' video on youtube to show the progress from sketch to the final piece... [link]
"fear of holes" - I had to Google that one. And I don't mean to cheapen your condition by bringing this up, by my horse had this! She was even afraid of turtles because they were round, black shapes on the ground.
Okay, okay, I'm not huge on the "cute" movement afoot in our weird world, but I've got to say, when I noticed the octopus in this piece, I laughed aloud. Very funny. Love it.

PS: To prove my meanness is still here: If I catch anybody stealing my work, I'll kill them with a tree. That's right, I can uproot a tree...and use it as a weapon.
Congratulations for the DD!
...why doesn't any one care about the south pole???
